Scientific Advisory Board

Sean J. Delaney – Dr. Delaney holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Master’s degree in Nutrition and a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis. After completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, Dr. Delaney accomplished a clinical nutrition residency at UCD. After attaining Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2003, he founded DVM Consulting to specialize in nutritional consulting for the pet food industry. DVM Consulting has completed projects for a wide variety of pet treat, supplement and food manufacturers. These contracts range from product development and analysis to product literature creation. DVM Consulting is also the exclusive purveyor of Balance IT®, a suite of patent pending veterinary clinical nutrition software tools and supplements that are widely used in the field by veterinary nutritionists and veterinary practitioners.

Dr. Delaney was employed as a clinical faculty member of the Department of Molecular Biosciences at UCD for four years. During that time he helped develop and establish the largest clinical nutrition teaching program in the country. He is currently the Senior Executive Vice President for Natura Pet Products, and the Vice President of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN). Dr. Delaney is currently co-editing the upcoming reference text for veterinarians entitled Applied Veterinary Clinical Nutrition to be published in early 2008 by Blackwell Publishing Professional, and is an actively sought speaker at international and domestic venues.

Sally C. Perea (formerly Pyle) – Dr. Perea holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, a Master’s degree in Nutrition and a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis. After completing a medical and surgical internship with Veterinary Centers of America in Illinois, she returned to UCD to accomplish a clinical nutrition residency. In 2006, Dr. Perea attained Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. She also served for one year as Associate Veterinarian and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, and is an actively sought speaker at international and domestic venues.

Jennifer A. Larsen – Dr. Larsen holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Science and a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis. She completed one year in local private practice before accomplishing a clinical nutrition residency at UCD. Dr. Larsen is also currently completing a PhD in Nutritional Biology under the direction of Drs. Quinton Rogers and Andrea Fascetti. In 2007, Dr. Larsen attained Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. She is also an Associate Veterinarian and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, and is an actively sought speaker at international and domestic venues.

Nick J. Cave - Dr. Cave holds a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and a Master’s degree in Veterinary Science from Massey University. He is currently finalizing his PhD dissertation in Nutrition. After completing a 3-year Internal Medicine residency at Massey University in New Zealand and attaining Membership in the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, he completed his Master’s degree. Dr. Cave attained Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Nutrition following a three year nutrition residency at the University of California, Davis in 2004. Dr. Cave is currently a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine at Massey University. He serves as an independent, affiliated consultant for DVM Consulting on a regular basis.

Chief Software Engineer

Aniel Santos - Mr. Santos received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside. He joined DVM Consulting, PC in 2004 as its chief programmer after leaving a position with All Nippon Airways in Southern California. He has an expertise in data management and Web-based software using remote computing resources. He recently submitted a patent on his work for the software used by BalanceIT.com. He oversees the team of software engineers that work on Balance IT®.
